FOGSquad 2015-16 Season Primer: Voted Off The Island Edition

In preparation for the upcoming 2015-16 season, FOGSquad will post a season primer of every NHL team every other day until the beginning of the season on October 7th. This is thus part ten of a thirty part series. We hope you enjoy!

Last season’s review
The New York Islanders have been quietly stockpiling talent, flying under the radar for the past year or so. During the 2014-15 season, the Islanders hit the ice at a firm and relentless pace, carving out a third seed position in the Eastern Conference. Though the Islanders exited far too early with a game 7 loss to the Washington Capitals, there's plenty to look forward to in the future!

This season’s preview
With the Islanders' new home at the Barclays Center, there shouldn't be any fear of lingering curses. And with fresh, talented faces coming into the Islanders organization, there's definitely hope for the 2015-16 season. While the gods are not too pleased at the Islanders for refusing the fisherman jerseys once again, their punishment lies dormant for, at the very least, four more years. Hopefully the Islanders will be able to make it to the Finals in that time, ensuring that their eternal bond to the gods is broken, freeing them from the load of piety.

The official FOGSquad prediction
The New York Islanders make it to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. However, a ripple in the space-time continuum—blame the Vancouver Canucks and the New York Rangers!—warps Barclays Center into a black hole. Strangely enough, everyone survives, but the Islanders are forced to sit out the rest of the playoffs and the finals as the cosmic event ceases all operations in the New York area for more than six months.

Players to watch
  • Song Andong. Okay, so Song won’t be playing for the Islanders yet, but I gotta give a shout-out to my boy. He's my son now. I don't have to explain this to you. 加油!
  • Kyle Okposo. Like I have to explain this.
  • John Tavares. I’m running out of players that I know of on the Islanders. I figure this is a pretty safe choice here. I mean, who doesn't know John Tavares? He's a good player, right? I think so.
